Tustin Unified, Tustin Toyota celebrate Drive for Excellence; Foothill High named winning school

Tustin Unified School District trustees and community partner Tustin Toyota celebrated the 12th annual Drive for Excellence program at the board meeting, and announced Foothill High School as the winning school for the grand-prize drawing.

Dr. Litvin told the board the program recognizes seniors who are "excellent academic role models," aims to keep students engaged and attending, and that "465 students completed the year with excellent attendance and engagement." He said the grand prize, a new Toyota Corolla provided by Tustin Toyota, would be drawn tonight and that the district would disclose which graduation will feature the winning student but would not reveal the student’s identity until that ceremony.

Board members thanked Glenn Kashima, parts and service director of Tustin Toyota, for the long-running partnership. Kashima addressed the board and, in remarks to the audience, said, "congratulations to Foothill High School number 45," and confirmed Tustin Toyota plans to support the program next year.

The board used the occasion to recognize additional employees and student accomplishments, including the district’s classified employee of the year and teacher finalists from across Orange County. The raffle procedure and the prize reveal follow the district’s usual practice of announcing the winning school at a board meeting and the winning student at that school's graduation.

The district did not announce the identity of the winning student at the meeting; the student will be revealed at the applicable graduation ceremony.
