SVUSD board ratifies tentative teachersagreement, approves personnel resolutions and amends consent calendar

The Saddleback Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees on Thursday voted to ratify a tentative agreement with the Saddleback Valley Educators Association covering the 2025—6 school year and approved several personnel-related resolutions.

The board approved the tentative agreement by voice vote after a motion and second; the presiding officer announced the motion "carries" following the aye responses. Trustees then adopted resolution number 3 25 26 concerning annual teacher assignment monitoring and approved resolution O42526 authorizing employment of a speech-language pathologist identified in the agenda.

Board members discussed staffing and fiscal constraints during the meeting. One trustee noted filling positions saves money by reducing outside contracting; the board and superintendent emphasized the district must balance multiyear commitments and that some funds are restricted or already committed for curriculum and technology purchases.

The board also considered the consent calendar. Trustees pulled consent item 12 d 26 (a ratification and master individual services agreement) for separate discussion after a numbering discrepancy was identified. An initial vote on that pulled item failed; the board then approved an amended consent motion to adopt the consent calendar with the exception of the specified student entry (student number referenced on the record) and carried the amended motion.

The superintendent and staff reiterated that some line-item dollars cited during public comment are restricted, one-time or already committed to legally required curriculum adoptions and technology purchases. The superintendent noted the district is required to consider a three-year budget projection when planning for ongoing positions and programs.

The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Sept. 11, with public session starting at 5 p.m. and reconvening at 6 p.m. after a closed session.
