The Placentia‑Yorba Linda Unified School District board opened its regular evening session by recognizing student achievement and community partnerships before discussing business.
Dr. Young announced that Golden, Lakeview and Sierra Vista elementaries earned 2025 California Distinguished School honors; principals spoke to the instructional strategies and community partnerships behind the awards. Valencia High School's Academic Decathlon team and El Dorado High School's mock‑trial team were also recognized for county and state accomplishments.
The Reach Foundation — the district’s education foundation — presented next. Giselle Winn, introduced as the Reach Foundation president, described the foundation’s programs and impact: she said the foundation has dispersed “nearly half a million dollars to over 20 programs,” provides $20,000 in teacher grants annually, serves approximately 17,000 students districtwide, and engages thousands of volunteer hours. Reach also previewed upcoming events and internship and ambassador programs.
Trustees and staff thanked students, coaches, teachers and community partners for their work supporting academic, arts and extracurricular opportunities.
What happens next: The three distinguished schools will be recognized by the California Department of Education at the Disneyland Hotel on May 30, 2025; Reach invited board members and the public to upcoming events and offered to answer follow‑up questions about grant and partnership opportunities.
