Anaheim Elementary board adopts 2024–25 unaudited actuals, files report with county

The Anaheim Elementary School District Board of Education on Sept. 10 approved its unaudited actuals for the 2024–25 fiscal year and authorized staff to file the documents with the Orange County Department of Education. Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services Matthew Slusser said the district received about $321.6 million in revenue, roughly $9.6 million more than projected, and spent about $322.4 million.

Slusser told the board the district’s unrestricted fund balance increased by about $3.15 million and restricted funds by about $4.36 million, for a combined increase of approximately $7.51 million; he said an unexpected one-time Medi‑Cal payment of about $6.2 million contributed to the year’s results. “This is a comparison of where we projected to end the year versus where we actually landed,” Slusser said, outlining revenue and expenditure changes across LCFF, state, federal and local sources.

Board President Juan Gabriel Alvarez called the motion to adopt the report; the motion was moved by Trustee Ruelas, seconded and carried 5–0. Slusser recommended the board adopt the report so the district can proceed with the annual audit and required county filings.

The board also ratified several prior actions taken at its June 18 meeting — including approvals of the 2025–26 proposed budget and other items — after Superintendent Jesse Chavarria explained staff sought ratification “to ensure the integrity and clarity of the board’s official record.” Each ratification was moved and carried unanimously.

What’s next: Slusser said staff will continue to work with auditors and bring the completed annual audit to the board in early 2026. The board’s vote tonight formalizes the unaudited actuals and the district’s plan to file the documents with the Orange County Department of Education.
