Irvine Unified board reports termination and approves Juneteenth settlement

The Irvine Unified School District board reported that it approved two personnel- and litigation-related actions in closed session during its Aug. 26 meeting.
Board members authorized the termination of a certificated employee (employee number 21358) under Education Code section 44836(a)(1). The chair reported the action was approved by vote of the board. Member Lauren Brooks made the motion to approve the termination and member Cyril Yu seconded; the report said the action carried 5–0 with members Brooks, Jeff Kim, Katie McKeown, Connie Stone and Cyril Yu recorded as voting yes.
The board also approved a settlement in litigation described as California School Employees Association v. Albany Unified School District, Case No. 22cv005456, a class-action dispute over compensation for work on the Juneteenth holiday in 2021 and 2022. According to the closed-session report, the district agreed to provide additional compensation to class members in exchange for waiver of claims; the settlement vote was reported as 5–0.
The chair also reported that trustees gave direction to the district’s negotiators on two real-property matters (listed in the closed-session report as 200 Cultivate and 101 Abacus) and that no final action was taken on those negotiations.
