Board approves safety MOU with Sandy Hook Promise and several contracts including AC replacement and workforce partnership

At its July 24 meeting the Brea Olinda Unified School District Board of Education approved a memorandum of understanding with the Sandy Hook Promise Foundation and a slate of contracts for student programs and facility work.
Dr. Johnson explained the Sandy Hook Promise MOU to the board, describing the Foundation’s service as providing ‘‘full time 24/7 live response’’ to anonymous reporting and a triage process that determines whether a report represents an immediate life threat and, if so, integrates district staff and law enforcement through an established phone chain. "There's gonna always be a live person responding," Dr. Johnson said; she also stated there is no charge for the service. Trustees voiced support and the MOU was approved on a unanimous vote.
The board also approved a 2024–25 agreement with Playworks, an agreement with Rancho Santiago Community College District for the Strong Workforce program (2025–27), a 2025–26 contract with Titan Air Conditioning to replace AC units at Brea Olinda High School (Project No. 250019), an agreement with Individual Food Services for paper products, and a scope increase for J and A Engineering (doing business as J and A Fence) related to a DSA change. Motions on these items carried by unanimous voice votes.
Votes and motions: The Sandy Hook Promise MOU and the listed contracts and agreements were approved by the board (each vote recorded as 4‑0 on the consent/action items where voice roll call was taken).
