The Ocean View School District Personnel Commission voted to reallocate the flooring repair worker classification from salary range 37 to range 40 to align it with other journeyman‑level trades.
Dr. Jensen explained the change, saying the flooring repair worker role was the only journeyman‑level classification still placed at range 37 while comparable classifications such as locksmith and painter are at range 40. “The reallocation ensures internal equity among classifications performing comparable levels of technical skill, independence, and responsibility,” Dr. Jensen said.
Commissioners discussed whether the change applied to a single incumbent; Dr. Jensen confirmed it does. An unnamed commissioner who said they had previously been a union president noted that employees and unions had advocated for this alignment when the position was created and voiced support. The motion to reallocate was moved by an unidentified commissioner (Speaker 3), seconded by an unidentified commissioner (Speaker 2), and approved unanimously, recorded as 3–0.
The commission recorded the decision as an administrative reclassification for internal equity. Human Resources will process the salary schedule change and adjust the classification accordingly.
