Superintendent Stephen McLaughlin and members of the Fullerton Joint Union High School District Board of Trustees honored Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources Ed Atkinson at his final official board meeting. McLaughlin called it “my great pleasure to honor Doctor Atkinson as he enters the world of retirement,” and described Atkinson’s decades-long career in the district, from student and teacher to district administrator.
Atkinson, who began teaching in the district in 1991 and served as assistant superintendent of human resources for 16 years, received remarks and gifts from board members and colleagues. In his remarks, Atkinson thanked the board and district leadership, calling himself “a product of this district” and expressing appreciation for his colleagues and family.
Board members offered personal reflections. Several praised Atkinson’s leadership during difficult periods including the COVID years and highlighted his work in negotiations and staff development. The tribute included a presentation of a commemorative clock and an image of the Fullerton High School clock used in district materials.
The board moved on to regular business after the recognition. There was no formal action attached to the retirement recognition beyond the public tribute and parting remarks.
