The Fullerton Joint Union High School District board voted to adopt additions to the district’s basic textbook list for English language arts and science for the 2025–26 school year after staff reported the materials had been reviewed by teachers and curriculum committees.
Assistant Superintendent for Education Assessment Services (presentation speaker) said the textbooks had been vetted by teachers, departmental leaders and curriculum committees and had been on display for public review since the March 11 meeting. When asked for a motion, the board moved and approved adoption with a recorded 5–0 vote.
Immediately following, staff presented an information‑only overview of the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) aligned to the Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). Director of Educational Services explained the district’s “moonshot” three‑year goals that target a 5 percent increase each year in college‑ and career‑preparedness measures through 2027 and outlined six strategic focus areas including professional learning communities, diagnostic assessment (NWEA), career and technical education and mental health supports. The presenters noted several schools qualified for targeted support and improvement (TSI) based on subgroup performance and that the district is working with the Orange County Department of Education to develop plans and goals for English language arts, math and graduation outcomes for homeless and foster youth.
Board members complimented staff on connecting earlier presentations and said the overview made the written school plans easier to understand. Staff indicated the SPSAs will be placed on the consent agenda for formal approval later in the meeting and that the district will return in June with a final LCAP draft after incorporating community feedback and OCDE recommendations.
