Garden Grove USD celebrates 11 California Distinguished Schools

Assistant Superintendent Lisa Swart told the board that on March 25 the state superintendent announced the 2025 California Distinguished Schools and that 11 campuses in Garden Grove Unified School District were named among this year’s honorees. "GGUSD earned more California Distinguished School awards than any other district in Orange County," Swart said, adding that the district had multiple campuses recognized statewide.
Staff called principals and teams from Anthony, Barker, Brookers/Burkehurst, Cook, Eisenhower, Excelsior, Hill, Patton, Peters (TK–3 and 4–6), and Zion elementary schools to receive certificates and pose for photos with the board. Swart described the award as the state's highest recognition for public schools and said selections were based on indicators from the California School Dashboard including academic growth and school climate.
Board members congratulated the schools and noted the awards reflect district instructional strategies and community support.
