Garden Grove board unanimously approves categorical aid application, contracts and a bus‑electrification resolution

The Garden Grove Unified School District Board of Education voted unanimously on Aug. 4 to approve a bundle of consent and business items, including a $17,988,747 consolidated categorical aid application for the 2025–26 school year, contract renewals and procurement authorizations, and a resolution to apply for funding to replace 11 diesel school buses with electric models.

Board members approved items 4a and 4b, which included a memorandum of understanding with Centralia School District to provide a deaf and hard‑of‑hearing program for students with exceptional needs and a master independent contractor transportation agreement for students with Individualized Education Programs under Education Code 39806. The board then approved Item 5a, the consolidated application for categorical aid, in the estimated amount of $17,988,747.

Under business items 6a–6k, the board authorized the assistant superintendent for business services to apply for the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s lower‑emission school bus program to facilitate replacement of 11 diesel buses with electric buses for the 2025–26 school year. "...to replace the 11 diesel power school buses with the new electric buses for the school year 2025 and '26," the board announced when presenting the resolution.

Other approved business items included emergency repair authority for Bridal Elementary School, awards of construction and maintenance contracts, a vendor renewal for surplus‑property auctions, a food services price change for adult lunches, and a dairy/frozen product purchase contract (Hollandia Dairy) for 08/06/2025–08/05/2026. The board recorded each item as a single roll call/voice vote; trustees answered in the affirmative and the measures passed.

The board provided no opposing votes and provided no substantive amendments to the items on the consent or business calendars during the meeting.
