Minnehaha County commissioners on Sept. 2 approved several routine actions and set a public hearing date on a rezoning request.
The commission voted to authorize the chair to sign the 2026 LEMPG (local emergency management performance grant) subrecipient agreement with the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management after a presentation from Jason Gehrman of county emergency management. The commission recorded a roll-call vote with all members present voting in favor.
The commission also authorized the highway department to purchase a Freightliner M2 chassis under Minnesota state contract 1242591 for $102,865 to serve as a new sign truck. Jacob Morris of the highway department said the replacement is needed because the existing vehicle has high mileage; the motion passed unanimously on roll call.
On land-use business, the commission approved a motion to set a public hearing on rezoning request 25-02 for Sept. 23 and authorized the auditor to publish the notice. Planning staff had recommended denial at first reading; the hearing will allow the applicant and the public to present additional information.
Finally, commissioners moved and voted to adjourn to an executive session under South Dakota Codified Law (SDCL) 1-25-2(3), (4) and (6).
