The Minnehaha County Commission authorized the auditor to publish notice of a hearing on the provisional fiscal year 2026 budget, which the auditor's office will schedule for Sept. 2, 2025. Susan Davin of the auditor's office summarized the provisional budget totals the commission will publish: roughly $132.7 million total, including about $96 million in general funds, nearly $16.8 million in highway funds and about $8 million in bond redemption funds.
Davin highlighted that public safety and justice represent just over $68.4 million, or about 71% of the general fund. She also described two line‑item changes the commission recently requested and approved: a position conversion in the public advocate office and a $10,000 increase in the sheriff’s forensic analysis line. The published provisional budget will include the notice of hearing and will be posted on the county website and published in the paper, with a second publication the following week.
Commissioners moved and voted to authorize publication of the hearing notice; the hearing will provide the formal public opportunity to comment on and consider adoption of the provisional budget.
