County auditor briefs commission: $36.8M of ARPA spent, ~$715,000 remains to be obligated

Susan Beeman of the auditor's office updated the commission on second‑quarter 2025 expenditures of American Rescue Plan Act funds, saying the county spent just over $271,000 in the quarter on two projects (a sheriff’s emergency tower and additional courtroom construction) and has spent to date just under $36,800,000 of a $37,514,015 award.
Beeman said about $715,000 remains and that the county has until 2026 to spend those funds. She warned that the Treasury has not yet clarified the closeout process, and the county will await federal guidance to complete final closeout steps. “We actually have until the '26 to spend those funds,” Beeman said, and added the county expects remaining open projects to be completed and expended in the third quarter.
A commissioner asked whether the county had originally received $50 million; Beeman corrected that the county received $37,514,015 and explained the unspent dollars are held in a segregated ARPA fund rather than commingled with other county funds. Commissioners thanked her for the clarification; she reported no concerns from the auditor’s office.
