Franklin County supervisors approved a one-year tax abatement of $48 for a vacant lot in Coulter where a property owner said they had invested about $12,000 cleaning and improving the parcel.
At the 9:15 agenda slot, Speaker 6 asked the board to abate taxes on the lot, saying the owners had spent about $12,000 cleaning it. Speaker 1 explained county policy allows abatement only for one year at a time. "Just so you know, they can only abate 1 year at a time," Speaker 1 told the group.
Speaker 2 moved to abate $48 for the lot and the motion was seconded. The board approved Resolution 25-54 by roll call: Lukensmeyer voted aye, McVicker was absent and Van Ness voted aye.
Staff and supervisors noted the abatement process requires owners to reapply annually if they still own the property; the board encouraged redevelopment of the lot so it returns to the tax rolls.
