Neighbor tells council Del Amo/Metro planning could jeopardize Coyote Creek bridge

David Pileman, a Cerritos resident who said his property line is about 50 feet from La Palma—s city limit, urged the council to watch the Del Amo reconfiguration and its interaction with regional transit planning. Pileman said earlier communication from a former Cerritos public works director indicated the railway right-of-way owner had permitted removal of a train bridge over Coyote Creek, and he cautioned that an extension of the Metro Southeast Gateway line could require redrawing the Coyote Creek bridge project.
"If the Del Amo Bridal project would be completed, even more land could be vacant," Pileman said, and he said he feared funds might be redirected to support a rail-line extension rather than the bridge. Pileman referenced federal and regional grant activity and noted that additional local commitments had been promised for related projects.
The mayor responded that the council could not take action on matters not on the agenda but said staff would look into the concerns and follow up with Pileman if he provided contact information.
Pileman remained in the chamber after his comment to allow for questions or follow-up from council members.
