Bonnie Pamish, chief executive officer of the nonprofit Working Wardrobes, presented to the La Palma City Council about the organization—s workforce-development services and volunteer opportunities.
Pamish described Working Wardrobes—s mission to help people overcome barriers to employment and outlined three revenue streams: government contracts (the organization acts as a vendor to cities, counties and states), three retail social-enterprise stores called The Hanger, and donations and grants. She said Working Wardrobes has helped roughly 132,000 people since 1990 and reached 7,615 people last year. “We help our clients move from making choices like paying rent or paying a utility bill to making choices that they can afford to do both,” Pamish said.
She invited council and residents to host clothing and toiletry drives, volunteer as a group, sponsor the organization—s Power Up for Success events, and attend the nonprofit—s 35th-year celebration scheduled for Sept. 20.
Council members thanked Pamish for the presentation and recognized the nonprofit—s work with military spouses and others. Staff did not request council action on the matter beyond encouragement to support or partner with the nonprofit.
