The alternative — engineered wood fiber, which the contract includes — is less expensive, consistent with recent city projects and meets the project’s standards, staff said. The vendor confirmed the design includes several adaptive play features to improve accessibility.
Council member Valencia voted against the award; the contract passed on a 4–1 vote. Funding for the work comes from park development funds restricted to parks and cannot be reallocated for unrelated sidewalk projects, staff said.
