Fullerton council honors Engine 5 and Falck crew after on-scene resuscitation; survivor credits crews for saving his life

Fire Chief Adam Loser introduced members of Engine 5 and Falck Ambulance and described a July 20, 2024 response in which the engine crew and ambulance personnel treated a male patient who experienced multiple cardiac arrests en route to hospital care. Chief Loser recounted that the crew applied an EKG, transported the patient to Placentia-Linda Regional Medical Center, recognized an ST-elevation myocardial infarction, moved the patient back to St. Jude’s, placed an airway and administered medications; crews achieved return of spontaneous circulation and the patient later underwent further cardiac care.
The patient, Gary Remlin, addressed the council and thanked the crew and hospital staff for saving his life. Remlin said he stopped breathing and experienced a total of five arrests that were witnessed by the responding crews. He described the crew’s persistence and training as decisive: ‘‘You saved my life,’’ he told firefighters and EMTs while presenting a commemorative flag made from firefighting hose that the Remlin family donated for Station 5.
Chief Loser and council members presented certificates and posed for photos with the crew and the Remlin family. Staff also acknowledged mutual-aid assistance from Orange City Fire Department and the role of Falck Ambulance personnel.
