Yankton County approves surplus sales, transfers and accepts sheriff’s quarterly report

At its Aug. 19 meeting the Yankton County Board of Commissioners took several operational actions: it declared a stockpile of millings near Lesterville surplus and authorized advertising a sale; it approved transferring vehicle #12 (a 2019 Dodge Caravan) from the sheriff’s office to the state’s attorney’s office for juvenile diversion use and authorized surplus sale of vehicle #10 (a 2017 Chevy transport van) on Purple Wave; and it accepted the sheriff’s second-quarter jail report.
Sheriff Christie summarized jail operations and revenue: through June the county had received about $737,730 from U.S. Marshals contracts, transport income around $45,000 and $58,576 recouped through the ‘‘20fourseven’’ program. The sheriff also said the jail’s operational capacity is about 120 and that the facility held about 105 people on the reporting day. Commissioners discussed policies on court-ordered fees and the operational challenge of holding Department of Corrections prisoners (state statute caps recoup at $95 per day for DOC holds).
Motions to declare the millings surplus, to transfer the vehicle to the state’s attorney, and to post vehicle #10 for sale carried by voice votes. The sheriff’s report was approved by motion and voice vote.
