Public works manager Joe Hunt told council the approach—used successfully during COVID‑era inventory shortages—lets staff secure good deals and local dealer stock when available. Hunt said roughly $1.8 million of the program is front‑loaded into 2025–26 and that about eight vehicles are expected to be funded from Measure R. The city’s fleet superintendent will continue to compare prices and pursue best-value purchases; staff flagged the possible incorporation of more electric vehicles in future years pending charging infrastructure.
Director of Finance said buying locally yields about a 2% combined local sales-tax return when purchases are from in‑city dealers. Council approved the authorization unanimously and asked staff to prioritize purchases from Buena Park businesses when feasible.
