Neighbors press Aliso Viejo council over drug activity, transient occupancy at 38 Colonial Way

Several Aliso Viejo residents used the community input period on July 15 to press the council to address safety and alleged illegal activity connected to a rental unit at 38 Colonial Way.

Kurt Sheedy, who said he lives next door, read a letter from another neighbor alleging repeated late-night comings and goings, people believed to be using methamphetamine, and footage captured on Nest cameras. Sheedy said he estimated a dozen people living in and around nearby Grand Park and said many appeared connected to the Colonial Way property. He urged the council to take ‘‘immediate and decisive action." The letter he read was signed by Natalie Tamsit (owner of Isabellas Book Barn and Vantus HOA board member), who said she would provide video evidence if helpful.

Community Manager Mitzi (city manager) responded that staff had no formal complaint procedure initially but have clarified reporting with Family Assistance Ministries (FAM); she said the city received an HOA email and that, after consulting with Chief Burr, there have been no calls for police service to that address since May 21. Mitzi said FAM has started the eviction process and staff will provide a status update at the next meeting. Mark Ronson, a nearby resident representing neighbors, added that a summary judgment had been filed with the court and that the sheriff may clear the residence within weeks.

The council did not take immediate enforcement action beyond staff follow-up and the city asking FAM for eviction status updates. Staff committed to report back on the eviction progress at the next council meeting.
