YANKTON — At its regular meeting, the Yankton County Commission approved several routine but operationally important items including an annual memorandum of understanding with South Dakota State University Extension for 4‑H support, right-of-way and utility certificates for the Stone Church project, and a maintenance agreement for an older safety-center elevator.
The commission also approved a contract change adding building mowing duties for the county’s Green King grounds contractor and decided not to appoint an additional drainage-board member, keeping the board at three members after discussing quorum and ordinance requirements. Commissioners directed county staff to consult with state’s attorneys about whether to dissolve or alter the drainage board in the future.
On administrative business, the commission approved minutes, claims, May payroll and the April auditor/treasurer report by voice vote. Commissioners set a department-head budget session for June 27 beginning at 11 a.m., with follow-up sessions to be scheduled as needed.
The meeting concluded after a brief executive-session motion and approval of a funeral/burial expense payment; the burial-payment amount on the public record was garbled and will be clarified in the official minutes.
