Kennett board hears construction updates for New Garden and Greenwood elementary projects

KENNETT SQUARE, Pa. — At its Nov. 10 meeting, the Kennett Consolidated School District received a facilities update showing construction progress at two new elementary schools and ongoing work at the district office and athletic fields.
Mister Bryce presented the November facilities report. He said New Garden Elementary is proceeding according to plan: exterior concrete, sidewalks, site fencing, terrazzo installation (completed in most areas), window and frame installation, acoustic ceilings and completion of the hard-play surface are all underway. Greenwood Elementary is likewise meeting contractual milestones with hydronic piping, brickwork, switchgear delivery and retaining-wall excavation in progress.
Bryce said interior finishing tasks (tile, drywall, ductwork, mechanical systems) continue at both sites and that the district has installed additional AEDs on playing fields and in the foyer to improve on-site emergency response.
Mister Tracy added scheduling context: New Garden is expected to be substantially complete in January with final completion in March 2026; Greenwood is expected to be substantially complete in March with full completion in June 2026. Furniture bids for both buildings will be opened Nov. 14 at the Chester County Intermediate Unit, with awards expected at the December board meeting.
What happens next: Site and finish work will continue through the winter; furniture procurement and bid awards are scheduled in mid-November and December, and the administration expects to bring formal award motions to the board.
