On Sept. 22 the Royal Oak City Commission authorized staff to finalize an agreement to install Level 2 electric‑vehicle chargers at the senior center and to complete contract revisions in consultation with the city attorney.
City staff and a project representative said the work is connected to an earlier Department of Energy grant that funded 100% electric transit vehicles for the senior center; the chargers are the grant-funded project's next phase. Staff reported a recommendation to install six Level 2 chargers by Red E at the senior center as part of the program. "These stations were the kind of the part b to that grant project that led us to purchase 100% electric transit for the senior center," a city presenter said.
Mr. Bocek, appearing on behalf of the city legal/administrative review, asked that the resolution include language requiring final revision and approval by the city attorney’s office before the agreement is executed. He told the commission the draft tracks the city's prior parking-system agreement but includes a few minor revisions. Commissioners agreed to approve the contract subject to the city‑attorney’s final review and any minor changes that do not materially alter termination or liability protections.
The motion to approve the EV‑charging agreement subject to final revision carried. Staff said they received revisions late the previous day and characterized them as minor; staff will complete negotiations with the vendor and return final contract language as required by the commission.
Next steps: city staff will finalize contract language with the vendor and city attorney and present any substantive revisions to the commission before execution.
