The Royal Oak City Commission approved a slate of board members for Royal Oak Youth Assistance during its May 12 meeting after organization leaders described programs and volunteer involvement.
Shelley Kemp, chair of Royal Oak Youth Assistance, reviewed the group's work — mentoring, family education and emergency funds — and described a recent increase in emergency assistance to families during COVID. Kemp said the organization is a registered 501(c)(3) and noted a change in the treasurer role; the new treasurer (identified in the transcript as Jill Robinet/Robinetti) is a local finance manager who volunteered for the post. Commissioners praised the organization's hands-on work and voted to approve the board by voice vote.
During public comment, representatives from the Royal Oak Historical Society invited the public to a pancake breakfast fundraiser on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the Royal Oak Farmers Market organizers announced a Family Pride event on June 11 from 4–9 p.m. and a series of centennial events running from Memorial Day through an October 8 finale. Market organizers said the anniversary will include a flower day, a larger August vendor day and a corn roast.
