The Royal Oak City Commission voted to appoint Eric Loftquist to the Royal Oak Civic Foundation board during its May 12 meeting.
A long-serving foundation member described stepping aside and recommended Loftquist, noting his three years with Oakland Community College and experience in fundraising, grant management and corporate relations. “We—t be asking this commission to approve Eric Loftquist as our next member of the Royal Oak Civic Foundation board,” a proponent told the commission.
Loftquist introduced himself at the podium as a lifelong Royal Oak resident and said he serves on local boards including the Rehabilitation Board of Appeals and the city's Audit Review Committee. “I—m really looking forward to making an impact in Royal Oak, as well as being an advocate for young people in both education and community impact,” he said.
Commissioners moved and seconded the appointment and approved it by voice vote. The commission did not record a roll-call tally in the transcript for this motion.
The appointment keeps Oakland Community College connected to the foundation; supporters said Loftquist—s fundraising and development background will complement the foundation—s needs. The commission's approval completes the board—s immediate vacancy; Loftquist will join the foundation as the replacement named by the outgoing volunteer who spoke to the commission.
