DDA staff announces summer concerts, landscaping changes and library refresh

DDA staff reported three free concerts at Friendship Park this summer, plans to bring landscaping (flowerpots) in-house, progress on library furniture installation and an almost-complete pedestrian bridge; AV upgrades will require July meetings at Fire Station 1.
DDA staff provided routine operational updates at the May 20 meeting.
Jane reported the DDA helped fund improvements at Friendship Park and will pilot a free concert series: June 12, July 17 and Aug. 2 at 6:30 p.m. She said staff are exploring sponsorships and possible food trucks.
The DDA will bring flower-pot and some landscaping work in-house under Dan and part-time employee Janine, with the goal of better seasonal maintenance and cost savings. Jane said turf management at the stone house improved after bringing services in-house.
Library furniture purchases were brought in-house to save money; most furniture has arrived and installation is underway with shelving expected to arrive later. The DDA also approved AV updates to the Wissner Center; while those systems are replaced in July public meetings will be held at Fire Station 1.
Jane said the pedestrian bridge decking work she funded is near completion and Kent County Road Commission will finish re-decking; the board plans a ribbon-cutting aligned with the heritage festival. She also noted redevelopment activity in the village — a new law office at 6660 Old 28th and a conditional planning commission approval for a possible bank — and said the DDA has a lead candidate for the DDA manager hire.
Next steps: staff will finalize concert logistics, proceed with in-house landscaping operations, finish library installations and circulate details about the July meeting location change.
