The Cascade Charter Township DDA voted to sponsor Metro Cruise weekend events after a presentation from event manager Brandon Simmons and a brief board debate about costs and measurable benefits. The motion to fund the event passed by a 6–1 vote after members discussed sponsorship levels and the need to seek additional corporate partners for future years.
Brandon Simmons, Metro Cruise Organizing Group event manager, told the board the wider Metro Cruise weekend draws very large crowds: "through police estimates, a 100,000 people attend during Metro Cruise weekend." He described a proposed activation at Friendship Park — a pit stop and potentially a concert — and said the packet showed anticipated total event costs of "over 17,000" with the DDA listed among major sponsors.
Board members asked for clearer financials and ways to measure return on investment for local businesses. Several members said they want metrics before making repeat commitments. "If the goal is to drive people to our DDA, we need some way of determining what the engagement of the event was and then to benchmark it," one member said during Q&A. Staff and the organizer described tools to measure visitation, including phone‑ping visitor-count tools and post-event business surveys.
During discussion the packet’s sponsorship numbers prompted questions: speakers referenced a $14,000 sponsorship line and another line saying "6,000 is the ask," and staff agreed to clarify the final requested amount in the packet and to pursue additional corporate sponsorship to offset DDA contributions.
Speaker 8 moved to fund the sponsorship; Speaker 3 seconded the motion. The board voted 6–1 in favor and the motion passed. Staff said they will return with a marketing and engagement plan, work to recruit corporate sponsors, and report metrics after the event to evaluate whether the sponsorship is producing measurable benefits for local businesses.
Next steps: staff will circulate the sponsorship details and the Metro Cruise promoter’s final packet, work with business owners on promotional opportunities, and prepare metrics tools and a post-event survey to assess whether the DDA’s investment increased visits or spending in the district.
