Legislative staff told the committee that the Department of Revenue submitted the report required by Senate Bill 1, which directs the department to create a voluntary race and ethnicity field within the personal income tax return starting Jan. 1. The executive summary and a link to the full report were distributed to legislators and posted in OLISS.
Co-chair Manning said he had reviewed the materials and raised privacy and scope concerns during the informational meeting, stating, "I am very nervous about this," and telling the room he expects to have many questions if the matter comes before the committee for action. Staff noted a Department of Revenue representative was present and could be contacted for follow-up; the committee did not take formal action on the report during the hearing.
