Board appoints Kenneth Silver as assistant superintendent for business

On Dec. 3 the Carmel Central School District Board voted to appoint Kenneth Silver, certified in school district administration, as the assistant superintendent for business on a three-year probationary term starting Jan. 6, 2025. The motion carried on a roll-call vote with unanimous support from trustees who answered yes during the vote.
Trustees who interviewed Silver on the hiring committee (Trustees Curzio, Douglas and Paraskeva) said they were impressed by his experience and recommended his appointment. Trustee Curzio and others noted the need for a leader to oversee operations, human resources and business functions.
After the appointment, the board approved a separate resolution authorizing the district to compensate Silver at the substitute-administrator rate ($500 per day) if he assumes the role prior to Jan. 6. The board also assigned him several district officer roles, including purchasing agent duties, student residency officer and district-wide school-safety responsibilities.
The appointment will be executed by the superintendent and the district will finalize the employment agreement. Trustees welcomed Silver to the district in the meeting room and expressed confidence in his ability to support the upcoming budget process and finance committee work.
