At its June 10 meeting the Carmel Central School District Board approved the consent agenda, accepted personnel resignations, approved personnel requests, appointed an acting superintendent for one day, and approved a four-year memorandum of agreement with the Building Heads Supervisory Association.
The board approved the consent agenda by motion and voice vote. Superintendent Dr. Fariben reported donations from the Community Foundation of the Hudson Valley, including a donation described as $101,887.08 to support life-skills/apartment living and PACE classroom appliances at Carmel High School. Trustees thanked donors and staff who facilitated the gifts.
The board accepted resignations including George Fisher Middle School principal Dr. Newville and Assistant Superintendent/Principal Lauren Santa Barbara; trustees thanked both for their service. The board then voted to appoint Lauren Santa Barbara as acting superintendent for one day (June 23, 2025) to cover the transition on the superintendent’s planned departure and the interim superintendent’s start.
Separately, the board approved a memorandum of agreement extending the Carmel Building Heads Supervisory Association contract for four years (07/01/2025–06/30/2029); the motion passed.
Trustees discussed a facilities operator stipend earlier in the meeting and heard administration explain the stipend stems from consolidating positions; trustees asked that future budgets capture such consolidated roles in job descriptions and salary lines for transparency.
Next steps: administration will process personnel actions, post the acting-superintendent appointment to appropriate records, and incorporate contract terms into human-resources records.
