The Carmel Central School District Board set dates and advertising for its search for a new superintendent on June 10.
President Orser presented a draft advertisement and trustees agreed to post by June 16 with a 30-day application window. The board set a deadline for receipt of resumes and cover letters of 12:00 PM on July 16, 2025 and scheduled first-round interviews for either August 11 or August 13, 2025, with final interviews to follow. Trustees discussed the timing and the logistical challenges of interviewing in August.
The board reviewed several recruitment outlets and advertising packages (New York State School Boards Association, NYS Council of Superintendents, Education Week and several association-specific lists). After discussion about print versus online reach and turnaround time for a 30-day window, trustees supported a mix of online paid postings and no-cost distribution: an online job posting package (45-day option to ensure visibility even though the posting window would be 30 days), a premium 'flash' package priced in the $399–499 range to increase visibility, and placement on the OLAF platform at no cost.
Trustees asked the administration and clerk (Ms. Stevens/Joanne) to finalize the advertisement text and distribution list; the superintendent and clerk will prepare final materials and circulate them for trustee review by the end of the week. Trustees also asked that posted interview dates be confirmed with trustees who will not be present during some August dates.
Next steps: district staff will post the job by June 16; applications are due July 16 at noon; first-round interviews will be scheduled for Aug. 11 and/or Aug. 13 as noted.
