Carmel Central Board unanimously appoints Michael Plockton as next superintendent

The Carmel Central School District Board of Education on Sept. 15 appointed Michael Plockton superintendent, voting unanimously to approve a contract that begins Oct. 17, 2025, and runs through Oct. 16, 2028.

The appointment resolution, offered by President Orser and moved and seconded from the board, authorized the board president to execute an employment agreement presented at the meeting. Vice President Curzio, Trustees Douglas, Grasso, Magliano, Torpey and Wise recorded affirmative votes. The board incorporated a copy of the signed agreement into the meeting minutes.

Board members praised Plockton as a longtime district resident with extensive experience in education. President Orser said the board was “fortunate and excited” to welcome him and described his local ties and commitment to students.

Plockton, speaking from the podium after the vote, thanked the board, district staff and families. “Every decision we make must begin and end with what is best for students,” he said, adding that he looked forward to visiting schools, meeting faculty and collaborating with community partners. He also said he would work closely with Dr. Erin Meehan Farben to assure a smooth transition.

The board recognized Dr. Farben at the meeting for her service since July 2024 and noted she will remain in office until Oct. 16 to support Plockton’s onboarding. The board cited achievements during her tenure, including the district’s universal pre-K initiative and changes to the budgeting process.

Next steps: Plockton is expected to begin district visits immediately, and the board said the employment agreement and related documents will be filed with the minutes as part of the public record.
