Dallas School Board approves three summer construction contracts totaling about $1.31 million

The Dallas School District Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve three construction contracts aimed at summer work across district facilities.

The board approved a $449,011 contract to replace and extend metal siding at Dallas High School, covering the auditorium, science wing and athletic entrance. The presenter said the metal siding comes with a 15-year warranty and an expected service life of 30-plus years and that the work will mitigate moisture intrusion and reduce frequent repainting. The board approved the contract following a motion and a voice vote.

Separately, the board approved a notice to proceed and contract award for the district’s portion of a sidewalk replacement project under an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the City of Dallas. The district’s scope was presented at $582,612.30; the project combines city and district work to maximize bidding and achieve full Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance, with construction planned for the summer. The board moved and voted to approve the district’s contract per the IGA.

The board also awarded a contract to Fitzpatrick Painting and Construction for siding replacement and repainting at the Dallas School District Office and the Morrison Alternative campus for $280,015. The presenter warned the site contains lead-based paint, so contractors must follow lead-abatement practices; the presenter also said some dry rot may be uncovered during work and that the district may return for additional funds if necessary.

All three motions were approved unanimously by the members present. No dissenting votes or roll-call tallies were recorded during the meeting.

The projects are slated to proceed over the summer with the goal of completing work before the start of classes where feasible.
