Fairview committee weighs Sandy Boulevard safety and design options

Fairview — During committee updates, staff described two alternatives County planners have proposed for Sandy Boulevard: one similar to the Halsey Street configuration with travel lanes, a curb, landscape strip, separate bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides; the other option would place a wider shared-use path on one side of the road.
Staff emphasized the project’s primary focus is safety and listed several proposed safety elements, including new midblock crosswalks equipped with rapid-flashing beacons where signalized intersections are not present. "The focus of that project, I would say, is really safety," a staff member said.
Committee members noted right-of-way limits along parts of the corridor, which constrains the addition of on-street parking. Members asked that county outreach incorporate the city’s perspective and requested county planners consider Fairview-specific roadway needs when refining alternatives.
Staff said the Sandy Boulevard proposals are still in the concept stage and that further design details and community input will determine which alternative proceeds.
