District staff outline invited design–bid–build procurement for upcoming project

District staff presented an overview of the procurement approach the board will use for an upcoming facilities project and answered clarifying questions from board members.
Speaker 6 told the board the project will use a design–bid–build approach but that staff plan to invite 4–6 highly qualified contractors to participate after a request-for-qualifications screening. “We’re gonna send the invitations to probably 4 depending on how many people respond…We’re gonna pay probably 4 to 6,” Speaker 6 said, describing the shortlist-and-bid approach.
Speaker 6 said the district will form the same scoring committee used for prior projects and that, among the shortlisted firms, the district will accept the low bid. Staff contrasted the approach with a previously used CMGC (construction manager/general contractor) alternative method, noting that the last CMGC round required a public hearing.
Speaker 6 said staff will return to the board with shortlisted firms and next steps once request-for-qualification responses are complete.
