Speaker 3 said a missed March 1 session was noted and staff included a flyer with three alternative training times in the packet, and legal counsel will offer 10–20 minute learning segments on recurring planning commission topics. "Robert's Rules, parliamentary procedure training that's online that we can sign you up for," Speaker 3 said.
Commissioners also discussed public-record and litigation risk. Speaker 1 referenced a lawsuit involving the township and cautioned that comments at public meetings can have legal consequences. Speaker 2 emphasized the need for clear, articulated reasons in motions and minutes so decisions rest on competent, substantial evidence. "Everything's recorded and anybody can listen to it at any time, so you should really talk like it is a full room all the time," Speaker 2 said.
Staff said they will circulate training sign-up information to interested commissioners and that minutes and motions will be prepared to better document the factual and legal basis for approvals or denials going forward.
