Township Manager Smith gave a multi-topic update covering development, roadwork and public-works issues.
On development, Smith said the RFQ for the final design and engineering of the Tuffy and Tassel site is due on Monday the 16th; staff plan interviews and will return to the board with a recommendation to move the design forward with the DDA. Smith also announced the township has hired a DDA manager who "just moved here from Colorado" and is expected to begin work on June 23.
Smith updated trustees on zoning revisions: staff and a zoning subcommittee held a marathon meeting and aim to bring the zoning draft to the board for a first reading in July with adoption targeted for August. He said the draft will be sent to trustees within two weeks for review and comment.
On transportation, Smith said 28th Street will undergo a complete mill-and-fill from Patterson to Cascade Road, beginning on the 16th and slated to finish on the 27th; staff are coordinating with the county road commission to maintain traffic during the Independence Day parade.
Smith also described interagency work on graffiti removal: crews repainted graffiti found on county and MDOT right-of-way structures and are photographing incidents so the sheriff's office can look for patterns.
Trustees thanked staff for progress on the Thornapple River bridge and the zoning work, and they discussed related items such as a potential social district and a concert at Friendship Park.
