Residents press township to tackle graffiti and zoning compliance; manager to provide monthly report

During public comment, several residents asked the board to take a more proactive approach to graffiti removal and zoning compliance.
Captain Ted Wilson, a longtime resident, said graffiti appears to be increasing on main thoroughfares and near Cascade Park and offered to help remove tags. "My concern is graffiti in the township... It's time to address the graffiti," he said and offered to leave photographs with staff. Manager Smith told the board staff would coordinate with Kent County and the road commission and include a zoning-compliance visits report in the monthly packet.
Other speakers raised compliance and park-use questions: Anne England asked about compliance visits at a neighboring property; Mary Anne described tire tracks in a small pedestrian area that staff said resulted from maintenance equipment; Scott Vansalk thanked staff for quick removal of signs and asked about memorial signage at the Thornapple River path.
Manager Smith said staff had already removed 36 illegal signs in one day and that the sheriff's office had followed up on some incidents; staff will include compliance visit data in future manager packets. Trustees thanked the public and encouraged residents to continue reporting issues.
