Cascade Township board approves consent agenda, financial actions and petition to strike long-unpaid personal property taxes

The Cascade Charter Township board voted to approve routine administrative and financial items and to authorize a statutory step related to uncollectible personal property taxes.

Trustee Shipley moved to approve the consent agenda with two corrections to the Feb. 26 meeting minutes; the motion was supported and carried by voice vote. The board then approved financial actions—payment requests for invoices on March 13 and the January 2025 financial statements—after a motion by Trustee Shipley supported by Treasurer Corson.

On a statutory matter, Financial Director Nancherini explained the board was being asked to waive extra notification so the treasurer could streamline a court proceeding to strike long-delinquent personal property taxes in line with the General Property Tax Act. Nancherini summarized the statutory background: after five years the treasurer prepares proceedings to request that circuit court strike uncollectible personal property taxes, and the board’s waiver is voluntary and only streamlines notification. The board voted to authorize the township clerk to sign the waiver and consent form for striking the 2019 delinquent personal property taxes.

The board also approved the 2025 Independence Day activities and related spending for Friendship Park and the library; staff said the overall budget for those activities was set as part of the annual budget and this vote authorized the expenditures and continuation of contracted services for the event.

What happens next: managers will proceed with the actions authorized tonight—processing invoices, continuing library-furniture procurement and filing the treasurer’s petition steps with the clerk’s waiver. The board scheduled routine follow-up and expects the fire department to present its annual work at the next meeting.
