The Moore County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 19 approved three separate fire apparatus items presented by Public Safety Director Brian Phillips and local chiefs.
High Falls Fire Department: The board approved the purchase of a brush truck for the Glendon/Carthage station (quote and add-ons reviewed). The board approved a budget amendment to pay approximately $110,114 from capital reserve with no financing.
Eagle Springs Fire Department: Commissioners approved the purchase of a 2026 HINOXL7 service truck for $184,125 to replace a high-mileage GMC box truck. Chief Mike St. Onge said the department will build and upfit the body locally to reduce costs and that the plan preserves engine replacement for later. The board approved a budget amendment (option 2) to fund the purchase.
Cypress Point Fire Department: The board approved reimbursement not to exceed $22,000 to refurbish a 1996 Dodge brush truck (76.1% county share). The county’s portion was stated as approximately $16,007.42 and will be reimbursed after invoices and proof of payment are provided.
Board discussion included appropriate vehicle uses (brush trucks are often used for non-engine responses and are more cost-effective for certain calls), financing options (5- and 7-year terms compared), and operational expectations for volunteer departments. Motions for purchase and accompanying budget amendments passed on voice votes; where applicable, departments will submit invoices for reimbursement.
