Cascade Township approves replacement staff vehicle for fire marshal

Cascade Charter Township on Jan. 23 approved the purchase of a replacement staff vehicle for the township’s fire marshal.
Supervisor Grace Lespronts turned the item over to the fire department, and Fire Chief Majors said the current fire‑marshal vehicle has about 100,000 miles and is roughly 10 years old, the board’s usual service life.
The capital improvement program included $70,000 for the replacement. Chief Majors said purchase through the state purchasing program plus three quotes for upfitting (radios, computers, lights and sirens) would keep the total within the approved CIP amount.
Trustee Shipley praised the department’s planning—“they forecast out usage of the vehicles” and maintain capital funding for replacement—and moved to approve the purchase. Trustee Rizzi supported the motion; the board approved it by voice vote.
The board did not identify the make or model to be purchased. Staff said the old vehicle will be moved to utility status and eventually auctioned.
