U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor visits Lawrence County, touts tax bill and urges completion of federal budget

U.S. Rep. Dave Taylor (2nd District) visited the Lawrence County Commissioners on Sept. 23 and updated them on federal priorities affecting the district, including a recently passed tax measure, ongoing budget negotiations in Congress and infrastructure funding.
Taylor said his office helped pass what he called the "Working Families Tax Cut Act," which he said will deliver benefits to sectors of the district and will be evident to constituents at tax time next year. "We got the 1 big beautiful bill passed, which they now refer to as the, Working Families Tax Cut Act," Taylor said. He told commissioners the legislation contains provisions that will directly benefit Lawrence County.
Taylor also discussed the federal budget process, noting Congress is working on a continuing resolution to keep the government funded and moving 12 appropriations bills toward final passage. He emphasized that completing an appropriations process is important for unlocking community project funding in the district. "A lot of the project funding that is in the budget under community project funding dollars in Lawrence County and all across the 2nd District are approved, and they'll actually deliver the funds if we get the budget done," he said.
He flagged the farm bill and surface transportation (highway) reauthorization as additional priorities that would affect local projects such as water, roads and bridges. Taylor encouraged local officials to contact his office if they have problems with federal agencies and offered his aide as a point of contact: "If you ever you guys ever have an issue or a question or information, trouble with a federal agency of any kind, you can reach out to Michael Perkins through my office. They're very good at resolving those things."
Commissioners thanked Taylor for attending; the board said they value the congressman’s attention to local priorities and noted his staff's responsiveness to county inquiries.
