Crossing guard urges Williamson County to change Santa Rita Boulevard intersection after near-misses

At the Sept. 15 Liberty Hill ISD board meeting, Charlene Connor, a district crossing guard and Liberty Hill resident, urged trustees to press Williamson County officials to change traffic control at the Miraboo Way and Santa Rita Boulevard intersection near Santa Rita Elementary.
Connor described increased foot and vehicle traffic this year, said visibility is often blocked by a makeshift turning lane and argued that drivers sometimes do not recognize they are in a school zone. She told the board she has placed a blinking "slow" sign at the crosswalk but that drivers still fail to stop, and she said the change to a three-way stop at a nearby intersection would better protect students.
"I could not live with myself if a child was injured on my watch," Connor told the board, requesting persistence in working with Williamson County to "remedy this potentially fatal situation." She noted the campus staff had petitioned the county previously.
Board members thanked Connor for bringing the concern forward. No formal board action was taken at the meeting; the item was recorded as a public comment and staff or trustees may follow up with county officials and district safety staff.
