La Porte ISD bond projects operational as staff fine‑tune facilities; safety audits and reunification plans underway

Mr. Whitcliffe, director of alternative education and student services, told the board the district is Region 4 certified and has earned a Harris County Safe District participation award three years running. He said the Sentinel system is live for uploading safety documentation to TEA and that SSP behavior threat‑assessment reports were completed and uploaded. An emergency operations plan is due Oct. 2.
Safety checks will focus on the Legacy Center, a CTE barn and athletic facilities, with attention to fencing (black steel, anti‑scaling, eight feet where required), cameras and lighting. Whitcliffe said staff are coordinating with Sergeant Larkey, the city and Harris County to evaluate potential reunification sites (San Jacinto College is under consideration), citing traffic concerns on Fairmont Parkway.
Trustees asked specific questions about barn access controls and fencing; Whitcliffe said facility checks and a second sweep will identify needed corrections before October audits. The board praised staff for safety preparations and the ongoing work to minimize disruption while projects continue.
