Council approves payroll warrant of $4.36M, accounts-payable warrant of $1.69M and multiple petitions; TMLP net-metering update placed on file

The Taunton Municipal Council approved routine financial warrants and several licenses and petitions during its session.

Finance committee members approved a payroll warrant of $4,359,717.38 and an accounts-payable warrant of $1,691,384.10. The accounts-payable summary listed the largest expenditures as $305,000 for water-main replacement and sewer expansion; $277,000 for federal and Medicare tax payments; $173,000 for repair and maintenance at the sewer treatment plant; $135,000 for group dental insurance; and $127,000 for unused sick-annuity payments. A prior-year DPW clerical education incentive payment of $500 was also approved for processing.

In committee and in council, members approved or referred multiple petitions: a Class 2 license name change for As Is Tire Service Center Inc. (doing business as As Is Auto Sales) at 94 Fremont Street was approved by committee; a temporary fixed vendor license for Bun Buddies, LLC at 557 Winthrop Street was approved; a requested procession by Saint Anthony's Church for Oct. 11, 2025, was approved and sent to the public-safety department; a CVS hours-of-operation renewal was referred to Police & License; a flammable-gas-storage name change (g and j Associates LLC to Diversified Housing Solutions LLC at 69 Ware Street) was approved; and a personal kennel license petition was referred for a scheduled hearing.

The council also received a detailed communication from the general manager of the Taunton Municipal Light Plant (TMLP) explaining a temporary pause on accepting net-metering applications in some areas while an engineering study was completed. The communication said all areas within the city had now been released to accept new applications and summarized recent TMLP investments.

Votes were recorded by voice with motions made and seconded; most recorded votes were approved by 'Aye' and noted as "so voted."
