Taunton resident asks DPW to fix hazardous driveway lip on Rankin Road; council refers inspection request

Nathaniel Daniels submitted a written notice asking the city to inspect and remediate a hazardous lip at his driveway at 10 Rankin Road that he says was created by a recent paving project. Daniels told the council vehicles are scraping and bottoming out at the driveway interface and provided photographs with his communication.
Daniels cited Taunton Code chapter 3‑83 (driveway openings and curb cuts) and Mass. Gen. Laws ch. 84 §15 as the legal basis for municipal responsibility to keep public ways in repair. He requested that the Department of Public Works inspect the location, outline corrective work (milling, grinding, or constructing a feathered asphalt wedge) and provide an estimated schedule for completion.
Councilors moved to forward the complaint and the accompanying materials to the DPW and to the mayor’s office; the motion carried by voice vote. The clerk recorded the referral and the mayor’s office was asked to coordinate DPW inspection and scheduling.
