The City of Taunton Board of License Commissioners on Sept. 10 reviewed a police blotter report about an Aug. 9 disturbance near 22 Bar & Lounge and heard the owners describe their response.
An officer told the board that officers were dispatched at about 12:13 a.m. and "observed approximately 60 people are still arguing in the alleyway next to the lounge," and that officers initially felt outnumbered at the scene. The officer urged the establishment to respect posted capacity limits and praised staff for assisting police once they arrived.
Co-owner Richard Andrew said staff and two security officers intervened, invited police into the establishment and cleared patrons; "We checked our cameras and see what happened," he said, describing an internal review. Co-owner Sina Shivers said the disturbance began after a minor fight linked to a birthday party and that staff acted quickly to remove the person at issue and close early that night.
Board members said they appreciated the owners' cooperation with police and noted the department will file the incident in the establishment's record. The board explicitly stated it was not seeking disciplinary action at this time but warned it would pay attention to repeat calls or chronic problems and would consider corrective steps if patterns emerge.
The board asked staff to monitor capacity-control practices and signaled continued oversight; no formal penalties or license suspensions were issued at the meeting.
