Student mental‑health program and Head Start clinics highlighted at Toledo City School Board meeting

At the April 22 Toledo City School Board meeting, student representative Chloe Lardee described her work with the district’s mental‑health SMARTS committee and how the program helped her develop leadership skills. Lardee told the board she plans to attend the University of Toledo and praised SMARTS for giving students a voice on mental‑health issues.
Parent representative Tanika Harris, chair of the TPS Head Start Policy Council, outlined health clinic services at six comprehensive high‑school locations. Harris said clinics offer dental services (including a full dental suite at Waite High School), walk‑in appointments, sports physicals, immunizations, chronic disease management, behavioral health care and a pharmacy that delivers to students’ homes or schools. Harris urged stronger community outreach so families who lack transportation or are unaware of services can access care.
Board members thanked the speakers and encouraged the district to publicize clinic availability. Harris emphasized the clinics accept patients regardless of insurance status and offer sliding‑scale fees.
